At Porter’s, no two nights are alike. Our calendar is shaped by the community that fills the space—live music, theatre, comedy, open mics, workshops, socials, talks, and the occasional brilliantly random one-off. Some people come to see a specific act, others wander in and find themselves part of something unexpected. However you arrive, you’ll never be short of something to watch, join, or discover.

OUR REGULAR EVENTs

open mic

  • Open Mic Night takes place every Tuesday — a night full of music, poetry, comedy, dance, and anything else you want to bring to the stage! Hosted by the wonderful Genevieve (one of the loveliest people you’ll ever meet). Whether you’re testing out new material or stepping on stage for the very first time, we can’t wait to hear what you’ve been working on!

    We welcome:

    • Singer/songwriters

    • Producers

    • Musicians

    • Poets

    • Comedians

    • Dancers

    • Anything else you’ve been wanting to try

    What to expect:

    • FREE DRINK for all performers

    • A welcoming community ready to cheer you on

    There is an acoustic guitar and a stage piano available for all peformers if they need it (but feel free to bring your own if you'd like). If you are performing anything else then of course you'll need to bring whatever equipment you will need in order to perform. If you are performing with backing tracks then using tracks from your phone/laptop is possible. We have a full microphone locker and P.A system so we are equipped for any setup you'd like to throw at us!

  • Open Mic is every Tuesday

    Sign up at Porter’s starts at 7 PM, and slots kick off at 8 PM.

original LIVE music

  • Porter’s Presents + Forte are our original live music events, celebrating emerging talent. They take place every Wednesday, plus the first two Fridays of each month.  Best of all? Admission is always free—making live music accessible to everyone. Join the movement and support the Cardiff music scene!  At Porter’s, we’re not just about incredible music—we’re about creating opportunities and nurturing a vibrant, diverse, music-loving community.  Come down, soak up the atmosphere, and discover new music from local and touring artists across genres including rock, pop, rap, RnB, folk, and more.

Quiz

  • We open at 4pm. It starts at 7.30pm. It finishes around 9. 6 to a team. £1 (cash) entry per team member. Quiz pot for the winners. It is a quiz. We deal in facts.

  • Quiz Starts 7:30pm every Sunday

bandaoke

  • For those who are new to Bandaoke, it's similar to karaoke, imagine belting out your favourite tunes with the exhilarating energy of a live band backing you up!  Trust us, it's an experience you won't forget soon.

    Don't forget, Maddie likes to buy a cheeky bottle of wine for her fave performer of the night

ASTRONOMY ON TAP

  • Fancy spending an evening sipping on delicious beer while learning fascinating insights about space? Join us every third Thursday of the month as students from Cardiff University deliver engaging talks, followed by a space-themed quiz with prizes to be won. Starts at 6 PM, and best of all, entry is free!

JANE’S CALAMITY MUSICAL SINGALONG

  • Join us, once more, for our monthly musical theatre sing-a-long with Jane’s Calamity.

    We’ll have all the classics from Hamilton to Wicked.

  • A monthly Open Mic held at Porters, Cardiff — a space for writers, poets, and performers to share work, test ideas, and connect through language.

WEEKEND PARTY BANDS

  • When the weekend hits, Porter’s loves to party!
    Our live music nights run every Friday and Saturday — except for the first two Fridays of each month. Music kicks off at 9:30pm, bringing you the best party bands around, with everything from soul, funk, and disco to reggae, ska, Latin, brass, blues, and beyond.

    Whether you’re out with friends, celebrating a special occasion, or just fancy a well-earned dance after a long week, you’ll always find a space here to let loose. And the best part? Free entry!
